Can the Retroid Pocket Duo play DS games?
Yes. DS is one of the systems the Duo handles best.
Gardiner Bryant ran every DS game they tried in WatermelonDS at 4× without noticeable slowdown, with fast-forward to spare and no visible delay between the two screens. TechDweeb reports the same with SeedlessDS at 4×.
The lower screen gives an exact 5× integer scale for the DS touchscreen, and finger touch felt responsive in Rhythm Heaven for WULFF DEN. Retro Game Corps compared WatermelonDS against an original DSi XL and found input delay close, with a small gap left.
Tested on other handhelds
None of these were tested on a Duo, and the results are the reviewer's impressions rather than measured frame rates.
Retroid Pocket Duo Lite
- forthenext at 6:50 ↗The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass runs at reported full speed with SeedlessDS high-resolution rendering on Lite. The reviewer reports substantial fast-forward headroom early on; not every touch or lid-close puzzle was tried.
- forthenext at 23:30 ↗In LEGO Battles: Ninjago, the reviewer reports the SeedlessDS LCD shader appearing on only the top screen of Lite, and later disables it. The build is not shown, so newer versions may differ.
- forthenext at 63:30 ↗New Super Mario Bros. shows intermittent scrolling stutter in the reviewer’s DraStic rev i18n test on Lite even while the speed counter says 100%. The build is not shown and the cause is unresolved.
- forthenext at 92:26 ↗Mario Kart DS exposes a hold-button problem in the Lite SeedlessDS test: drifting and holding items behave like repeated presses. A controller test looks normal to the reviewer, and no fix for the emulator or button mapping is found.
- forthenext at 204:47 ↗Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies gets a positive verdict in a short test with SeedlessDS high-resolution rendering on Lite. No frame rate is given and only a short stretch was played.
- V1cariousGaming at 4:23 ↗In Sonic Rush on Lite’s GammaOS preview, the reviewer reports smooth motion and closely synchronised screens by eye, with fast-forward headroom.
- V1cariousGaming at 9:03 ↗The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks touch controls are described as substantially better than stock on Lite’s GammaOS preview, but the reviewer still notices some delay. They call the short rock-picking and throwing stretch playable.
- V1cariousGaming at 10:50 ↗Pokémon Black Version 2 has a positive boot and title sequence on Lite’s GammaOS preview, including fast-forward headroom. Demanding battles and later areas were not shown.
