Can the Retroid Pocket Duo play original Xbox games?
Probably, but there is no regular Duo test yet.
HakuX is the emulator to try. It needs 64-bit Android with Vulkan and is tuned for Adreno GPUs, and the Duo has an Adreno 722. It needs no BIOS files.
Retro Game Corps tested HakuX 1.2.0 on a Snapdragon 865 handheld and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 handheld, and most games they tried ran well at 2× resolution. Those results come from other chips, so use them to choose games to try first, and expect some differences on a Duo.
Tested on other handhelds
None of these were tested on a Duo, and the results are the reviewer's impressions rather than measured frame rates.
Retroid Pocket 5
- Retro Game Corps at 8:02 ↗On the Retroid Pocket 5 (Snapdragon 865), the reviewer reports Panzer Dragoon Orta and Project Gotham Racing playing fine at 2×. About six games were tried, and they say other games will probably have performance problems.
Anbernic RG477M
- Retro Game Corps at 8:51 ↗On the Mali-based Anbernic RG477M, the reviewer sees no major graphical issues and compares the experience to GameCube emulation. No individual game results are stated.
Retroid Pocket Nova
- Retro Game Corps at 9:54 ↗On the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Retroid Pocket Nova, the reviewer reports Jade Empire, NBA 2K7, MVP Baseball 2005, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2X, Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball and Jet Set Radio Future running well at 2×. Jade Empire's text feels small on this screen.
- Retro Game Corps at 11:56 ↗On the Nova, Halo and Halo 2 run really well at 2×, with a couple of dips reported in Halo 2.
- Retro Game Corps at 12:25 ↗On the Nova, Breakdown shows no graphical issues across about 20 minutes of its tutorial. Midtown Madness upscales without its usual texture problems, and Otogi's lighting looks good.
- Retro Game Corps at 13:01 ↗Phantom Dust's cutscenes flicker heavily on the Nova. Gameplay seemed okay, but the reviewer did not get far into the game.
- Retro Game Corps at 13:28 ↗Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay runs really well on the Nova.
- Retro Game Corps at 13:50 ↗Fable: The Lost Chapters plays on the Nova, with some lighting effects that do not look fully correct.
Handhelds not named in the video
- Retro Game Corps at 14:02 ↗Two handhelds play Halo over HakuX system link on the same Wi-Fi network, and the reviewer calls the lag pretty good. The video does not state which two handhelds were used.
